More than Half of Iowa WACs Have Immediate Kin in Service
Des Moines - More than 50 per cent of Iowa women serving in the Women's Auxiliary corps come from families which has at least one other member on the service.

Pfc. Rose Simpkins, daughter of Mrs Barbara Simpkins of Oxford, is on duty at the army and navy general hospital, Hot Springs Ark. She taught school and was employed as a bookkeeper prior to her enlistment in July. Her brother, J.M. Simpkins, is also in service.

IN THE SERVICE
Pfc. Rose Simpkins of Oxford, who had to sign a waiver to join the WAC because she is only 4 feet 11 inches tall, is now stationed at the medical technician school of the army and navy general hospital in Hot Springs National Park, Ark. Recruited through Cedar Rapids WAC recruiting station, she recently completed basic training at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and was sent to Hot Springs as company clerk for the WAC medical technician school.

JOINS BROTHER - Miss Rose Simpkins, daughter of Mrs. Barbara Simpkins, Oxford, is sharing military honors of the family with her brother, Jack. Miss Simpkins is private, first class, in the WAC's, now stationed at Hot Springs National Park, Ark., as company clerk of a medical technician school. She enlisted last August. Her brother is Sergt. Jack Simpkins, with an infantry unit at Camp White, Ore.

Memorial Service at St. Mary's, Oxford, for Sgt. John Simpkins
Memorial services for Technical Sergeant John M. Simpkins, who died of wounds received in action at Okinawa April 13th, will be held at St. Mary's Catholic church at Oxford on Saturday morning, June 16, at 9:00 o'clock with the Rev. P.J. Ryan in charge.
Sgt. Simpkins, son of Mrs. Barbara Simpkins was born October 14, 1921, in Oxford and spent his entire life there until joining the army. His father, Clyde E. Simpkins, preceded him in death May 10, 1937.
Surviving are his mother of Oxford and one sister, Sgt. Rose Simpkins of Camp Atterbury, Indiana, a member of the WACS.

Rose Anne Simpkins Wozniak was born May 19, 1919 to Clyde E. and Barbara Edna Jiras Simpkins. She died Dec. 12, 2018 and is buried in Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery, Lake Geneva, WI.
She was married to Richard J. Wozniak. Richard served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
