WAACS ENLIST WOMAN PILOT
213 Recruits Join During the Day
The WAAC Thursday enlisted a girl airplane pilot who has been helping make shells for the fighting men.
Beulah Schaad, 24, of Burlington, who has been flying for two years and holds a private pilot's license, has been an inspector at the Iowa ordnance plant there.
As a civilian air patrol student, Miss Schaad has been studying airplane mechanics, so she asked for assignment with the WAAC.
Miss Schaad's two brothers are in the air forces and the navy. She said "somebody else can make shells, perhaps better than I can. And I thought I might be doing more to help win the war by serving the WAAC than flying in the CAP."
