Obituary ~ Mary Frances Reger-Wilkinson
October 17, 1909 ~ February 24, 2006
Mary Frances Reger-Wilkinson, former resident of Iowa City (1924-1942) died at the age of 96 in Long Beach, California on February 24, 2006 of natural causes. She graduated from Iowa City High School in 1926 and earned her B.A. degree in 1929 and her M.A. degree in 1939 from the University of Iowa. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard R. Wilkerson, a decorated World War II veteran in 1962; their son George R. in 1993; her parents Francis A. and Georgia (Rudibaugh) Reger in 1970 and 1974; her brother, Col. Charles Kenneth Reger, D.D.S. in 2001, and his wife Marjorie (Frazier) Reger in 2000.
Mary Frances will be remembered as working for many years in the Iowa City High School and later with the Iowa Child Welfare Research Station. Her career spanned almost 50 years in the field of services to children, and she retired in 1974 from the Los Angeles County Children Services.
During World War II she served with the American Red Cross Military and Naval Welfare at six Army posts.
She was interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California beside her husband.
