Lt. Esther Ortman

 

Second Lt. Esther Ortman, 3418 Washington street, has left for a visit with her family, who reside in Freeman, S.D., before reporting for duty in the army nurses corps.

Lt. Ortman who has been engaged in nursing at Mercy hospital, will go first to Camp Carson, Denver, Colo., for a period of military indoctrination, before receiving her assignment to active duty with the corps.

Esther Ortman and Kenneth Thompson Take Wedding Vows

Miss Esther Ortman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August K. Ortman, Marion S. Dak., who has been residing with her brother-in-law and sister, the Rev. and Mrs. B. E. Van Tassel, 3418 Washington street, Davenport, was married to Kenneth Thomas, Davenport, at 7 p.m. Saturday Oct. 9 at the Van Tassel residence with the Rev. Mr. Van Tassel officiating at the candlelight ceremony. Music was presented by the Mrs. Milo Goering, Newton, Kan. and Miss Verlyn Schrag, Marion.

Miss Lillian Ortman, sister of the bride, and Richard Kelsey were the attendants.

The bride was graduated from the high school and junior college of Freeman, S. Dak and from the Bethel hospital training school, Newton, Kan. She was recently discharged from the army nurses corps after duty in the South Pacific and before her marriage was on the staff at Mercy hospital. Mr. Thompson, a graduate of Davenport high school, served with the army in the South Pacific and is now employed by the Peerless Dairy Co, Rock Island. After short wedding trip the couple will reside at 1804 Davenport avenue.
