Navy Gets 5 Waves

Qualifying for enlistment at the Cedar Rapids navy recruiting office were: Elaine Joy Nunnally, 1735 C avenue NE; Rachel Obrosk, 415 Eight street SE; Hollis Hope Schallau, Grinnell; Martha Howe, Tipton; and Betty Jean Stuart, Iowa City.

DYSART GIRL IN WAVES

Dysart, Ia. -- Miss Rachel Obrosk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Obrosk is the first Dysart girl to enlist in the Waves. She has been accepted and will leave Oct. 30 to begin training at Hunters college in New York City. Rachel has been employed at the Collins Radio company in Cedar Rapids.

Rachel Obrosk, Wave, has been advanced to a petty officer rating of yeoman third class. Her sister, Flossie, will leave next week to begin training in the Waves at Hunter college, N.Y.

Dysart -- At 2:30 p.m. Saturday in St Leonard's rectory, Berwyn, Ill., a double ring ceremony was performed united in marriage Miss Rachel Mabel Obrosk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Obrosk, Dysart , and Peter P. Vaitkus, son of Dominic Vaitkus, Berwyn, Ill. Attending the couple were Miss Irene Burgress, Pryor, Okla., and LeRoy Meyers, Chicago.

Among the the guests were Mrs. Herman Obrosk, Dysart, mother of the bride; Mrs. Albert Losenicky, Dysart, and Miss Ruth Obrosk, Waterloo, sisters of the bride; Richard Lemert and Miss Bonnie Keen, Dysart, and Mrs. Paul Vait, sister of the groom, a government employee in England, who came to the United States for the wedding of her brother.

The bride was employed in Cedar Rapids by Collins Radio Corp, until her enlistment in the Waves. Her discharge was received at Great Lakes, Ill on Mar. 9, 1946 with a rating of yeoman second class, after serving 28 months.

The groom was in the marine corps 45 months. He was with the Third Marines 26 months in the Pacific area. His discharge was received ion Oct. 5, 1945 at Quantico, Va. At the preset time he is employed in Chicago by Western Electric Corp. The couple will make its home in Berwyn.
