Excited Munger Sisters Bubble All over; They're Both Accepted in Waves
"From now on everything's going to be ship shape" That was all Dorothy and Maurene Munger, daughters of the Grant B. Mungers, 1921 First avenue SE, could calm their excitement enough to say as they arrived "home on leave" last week after having been accepted by the Waves.
"We've been wanting to join since August but we were scared to apply until last week," they added, interrupting each other to give a blow by blow description of the examinations, interviews and paper signing which they rushed through in Des Moines.
"And after all those exams they gave us a minute to change out minds before we were sworn in," they said. "As if after going through all that we'd back out!"
The don't know yet when their active duty call will come, but they hope it will be soon. If recommendation as to their respective station go through as scheduled, the navy will succeed in separating the sister for the first time. Both are graduated from the University of Iowa, both were members of the Delta Gamma sorority, both majored in art.

Salute by a WAVE to 5 Recruits
OFF TO JOIN THE WAVES, the five young women in civilian clothes in the picture take a lesson in saluting from Yeoman Third Class Maurene Munger, 1921 First avenue SE. The Waves-to-be are (left to right) Phyllis Gress, 203 First avenue SW; Betty Brown, 1220 Third avenue SE; Doris Fink, 1406 First street NW; Gertrude Hoyle, 2208 Fruitland boulevard SW, and Claire Roberts, 1015 Third avenue SE. Yeoman Munger, home on leave, will leave soon for duty at the Atlanta, Ga., naval air base. The picture was taken Monday afternoon as the 5 entrained for Des Moines.

Maurene Munger to Be Wed
Dr. and Mrs. Grant Breed Munger, 1921 First avenue SE, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Maurene, a yeoman third class in the Waves, to Richard Lynn Kerr, petty officer first class of Washington, D.C., son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman T. Kerr of Colver, Pa The wedding will take place Saturday in Decatur, Ga at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Sam Cartlege, cousin of the bride-elect. Saturday is also Dr. and Mrs. Munger's wedding anniversary
Miss Munger, a graduate of Washington high school, attended Coe college and was graduated from the University of Iowa. She is a member of Delta Gamma sorority and the Cedar Rapids Junior league. She entered the Waves Oct. 6, 1942, received her training at Stillwater, Okla., and is now stationed a the Atlanta naval air station.
Mr. Kerr attended George Washington university in Washington and was employed in the civil service office there before entering the navy. He is also located at the naval air station in Atlanta.
Dr. and Mrs. Munger accompanied their daughter Friday to Chicago where they were to spend several days with another daughter, Dorothy Munger, storekeeper third class in the Waves. They plan to attend the wedding Saturday in Decatur.
