Named P.R.O. At Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne, Detroit Mich. -- When WAC Lt. Phyllis Martha Lowe was named public relations officer at Fort Wayne, she became the first woman to hold this title in the fort's century of existence.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.E. Lowe, 202 Twenty-ninth street NE, Cedar Rapids, Ia., Lt Lowe was engaged in the advertising business in Cedar Rapids.
She arrived at Fort Wayne in August, 1943, one of the first group of WACs to be stationed here. These Fort Wayne WAC officers were among the first assigned to understudy administrative duties held by army officers. Lt Lowe enlisted in February 1943 and was commissioned in June of that year.
