6 IOWA WACS TO GRADUATE
Six Iowa women will be graduated in the thirty-seventh WAC officer candidate class Monday at Fort Des Moines training center.
The graduation will mark the first anniversary of the arrival of the WAC at Fort Des Moines.
Capt. Mary S. Bell, WAC director in the seventh service command at Omaha, Neb., and former dean of women at Coe college in Cedar Rapids, Ia., will be the speaker. She was a member of the first officer candidate graduating class.
Iowans to be graduated are: Aileen Lohrke, Nashua; Vivian V. Long, Davenport; Margaret L. Moore, Centerville; Golda I. Van Tasell, Cedar Rapids; and Dorothy A. deJong, 5004 Woodland ave., Des Moines.

Two in Army
Corpl. Jesse A. Long and Third Officer Vivian Long, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Long , 615, South Concord street, are two good representatives of a family in the army.

Third Officer Long, a member of the WAC, is now in the administrative headquarters office at Camp Breckinridge, Ky. She entered the service March 1, 1943, and received basic training at Fort Des Moines. She attended officers training school and as graduated and commissioned June 19. Officer Long was employed by the Hansen Lumber Corp. before going in to the service an took business training at the A.I.C.

WAC Officers
Miss Elsie M. Olson of 1557 West Sixteenth street, and Miss Vivian V. Long of 615 Concord street, Davenport, have been commissioned third officers in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps.
They were selected for officer training on the basis of ability and record of work as an auxiliary the the WAC. Third officer is the WAC equivalent of second lieutenant
They will be assigned to executive positions n the WAC corps immediately taking over a non-combatant army job releasing a soldier for combat duty, or participating in the expanded WAC training program which eventually will replace a full field army with trained women-power in behind-the-lines army jobs.

VIVIAN LONG, WAC, IS PROMOTED TO FIRST LIEUTETNANT
Miss Vivian Long, commanding officer of the WAC detachment at Salines field, Calif., has been promoted to the rank of first lieutenant. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Long , 615 Concord street.
Entering the service on March 2, 1943, she was commissioned a second lieutenant in July, 1943, at Ft Des Moines, Ia. She has also stationed at the Tonopah, Nev., air base and at March field, Calif.
A graduate of Davenport high school and the American Institute of Commerce, she was formerly employed at the Hansen Lumber Corp.

LIEUT. VIVIAN LONG ASSIGNED TO WAC OFFICERS SCHOOL
Lieut. Vivian Violet Long, commanding officer of the WAC detachment at Salinas, Calif, is a member of the second class of student officers assigned to the Women's Army Corps school for personnel administration at Purdue university, Ind.
Lieut. Long, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Long, 615 Concord street, will return to her command at the conclusion of the two-and-a-half week course. She has been in the service since February 1943.
