Our Neighbors in the Service
Holstein, Iowa – Miss June C. Kahl, who enlisted in the navy nurse corps, received her call to active duty, leaving Cherokee last Tuesday evening for the Great Lakes training station. She has been given the rank of ensign. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Kahl of Holstein.

June Caroline Kahl Massey was born Jan. 5, 1921 to Carl Gustav Johann and Anna LeNita A. (Nita) Ohlson Kahl. She died Nov. 13, 1968 and is buried in Bay Springs Cemetery, Bay Springs, Mississippi.
June served in World War II with the U.S. Navy WAVES at Great Lakes Naval Hospital and USNH #128, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She was married to Dr. Samuel Mark Massey. Dr. Massey served in World War II with the U.S. Navy after his graduation from dental school. He served aboard the USS Yosemite (AD-19) in the Asia-Pacific Theatre.
