Shirley Marie Atkins Hand was born May 11, 1921 to Floyd L. and Bevan Ulin Atkins. She died Feb. 13, 2014 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.
Lt. Hand served with the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps in the Solomon Islands in World War II. She was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Ribbon. She was married to Thomas J. Hand.
