Ethel Gregg Will Leave Today For Fort Des Moines
Miss Ethel Gregg, a general staff nurse at Mercy hospital;, is leaving today for Fort Des Moines to take up duties as an army nurse. She will have the rank of second lieutenant.
Miss Gregg graduated from nurses training at Mercy hospital and from the West Liberty high school. She had one year of study at the University of Iowa. For the past two years she has worked in the operating room at Mercy hospital.
She is the 10th nurse from Mercy hospital to go on duty with the army.

WOMEN IN SERVICE
Second Lieut. Ethel M. Gregg, formerly of Iowa City, is now stationed with the Red Cross nurses corps in the surgical departments of the a British hospital in North Africa, according to word received here. A graduate of the Mercy hospital school of nursing, Lieutenant Gregg has been in North Africa for six months.

West Liberty Army Nurse Is Home After 30 Months Overseas
West Liberty -- First Lt. Ethel Gregg Army Nurses corps, has returned home after serving 30 months overseas. She has been awarded the Bronze service battle stars worn on European, African, Middle Eastern Theater ribbon for campaigns of Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Northern Appenines and Po Valley. As a surgical operating room nurse on a surgical team she shared in saving the lives of many seriously wounded soldier by her outstanding performance of duty. She was subjected to especially heavy enemy air raids and shell fire on the Anzio beachhead in Italy.

Records Show Discharge Lists Over 2800 Mark
Muscatine county's list of World War II discharges since VE Day hit the 2800 mark with the addition of 22 certificates of discharge field during the last half of November of the office of County Recorder Ida E. Grimm.
Approximately 300 discharges had been filed by World War II ex-servicemen prior to that date which brings the county discharge list to approximately 3100.

Ethel Mae Gregg was born Jan. 12, 1909 to Albert and Ella Mina Hormel Gregg. She died Sept. 19, 1999 and is buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, West Liberty, IA.
