Lt. Emogene Rummel Wed June 3, Somewhere In Italian War Zone
THE MARRIAGE of Lt. Emogene Rummel, A. N. C., only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Rummel of Williams and Lt. Forest Grandstaff of Maxwell, Neb., was solemnized at a post chapel somewhere in Italy at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3.
Chaplain Skoen performed the double ring ceremony before the altar decorated with candles, calla lilies and roses.
Lt. Olive Kuehn was maid of honor and Lt. Phyllis Kuehn, bridesmaid. Their escorts were Col. John Hughes and Lt. Leroy Schnek.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her commanding officer, Col. James Hughes wore a beige suit and carried sweetheart roses. The bridesmaids, who are sisters, wore regulation O D uniforms and carried red roses.
Preceding the ceremony Sergeant Bell sang “Because.” A reception followed at the nurses’ lounge and the young couple later left on a seven-day wedding trip.
The bride was graduated from Williams high school in 1937 and attended the University of Iowa for one year. She is a graduate of Grant Hospital, Chicago, and practiced nursing for one year before joining for Red Cross duty.
She had been at Fort Sheridan, Ill., just two weeks when she was sent overseas and has been attached to the Fifth army in Italy for several months.
The bridegroom was examiner for Bank of America branches in California before joining the army.

Emogene Ardell Grandstaff, 81, passed away Thursday (Aug. 26, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.
Emogene, the daughter of Floyd Sr. and Loraine Carr Rummel, was born April 21, 1918, at Dows. She attended school in the Dows area and graduated from Williams High School in 1935. She attended Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, graduating on June 4, 1942.
She served with the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II as a Second Lieutenant, serving in the European Theatre and the Anzio Beach Landing. She was discharged from the Army on July 15, 1943, and moved to Britt in 1958. She was formerly married to Forrest Grandstaff, of North Platte, Neb.
Emogene is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Saurez, and her children, Tino and Cristy, of Spartanburg, S.D.; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Rummel, of Saratoga, Wyo.; three nieces; and two nephews; and a great-uncle in California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, James and Floyd.
