WAVE of the Day
Margaret Foley, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W.E. Foley, 4006 Brady street, has been promoted to the rating of specialist recruiter, third class. Her recruiting duties put her in charge on the western Illinois territory.
Miss Foley took her "boot" training for the WAVES at Hunter college, New York City, N.Y and then was stationed at Chicago. She was next stationed at Glenview Air Base, Ill. and has been making her headquarters in the Davenport WAVE office for the last two months.
She has two brothers in the service Pfc. Ned Foley in A.S.T.P. and Bob Foley, apprentice seaman in V-12.

Recruiting Office of WAVES Opened Here
The first WAVES recruiting office to be established in Rock Island was opened Monday at the Schmiers Radio Service store, 1806 Third avenue.
The two recruiters in charge are Lt. (j.g.) Virginia Marvin of San Francisco, Calif, and Specialist Recruiter, third class, Margaret Foley of Davenport.
Both WAVES were sent to Rock Island from South Bend, Ind. where they had served on recruiting duty.

Of interest to many friends in the Tri-Cities is the announcement made by Dr. and Mrs. Walter E. Foley, 4006 Brady street, of the engagement of their daughter, Margaret Ann Foley of the WAVES to Midshipman Rodman Thomas Joyce, U.S.N.R., son of Mrs. Helen Dorr Joyce, 33 East Bellevue place, Chicago.
The bride-elect is a graduate of the Villa de Chantal, Rock Island and received her degree form Northwestern university. While at Northwestern, she was affiliated with the Gamma Phi Beta national social sorority. She has served with the WAVES since July, 1943, and has been a specialist recruiter, stationed in the Tri-city area for the past several months.
Midshipman Joyce was attending Grinnell college, Grinnell, Ia., when he enlisted in the navy in 1941. He served overseas for a year and one-half in the district naval intelligence department in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was then transferred to Lawrence college in Appleton, Wis., for officers training. At present he is attending Northwestern university and will receive his commission in January.
