Winthrop—Miss Dorothy Gene Fawcett, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Fawcett, has enlisted in the Wac, the first from Winthrop, and will begin her basic training at Fort Des Moines Jan. 3, 1945. She has been a laboratory technician at St. Luke’s hospital at Cedar Rapids. Her only brother is with the marines in the Pacific.

Winthrop -- The betrothal of two members of the armed forces was revealed here on Friday as Mr. and Mrs Lester Fawcett of Winthrop, formerly of Cedar Rapids, announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Pvt. Dorothy Gene Fawcett, to Tech. Sgt Edwin L. Wenholz, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Wenholz of Winthrop. The bride-elect is stationed at Monmouth, N.J. and Sergeant Wenholz at La Moine, Cal. No wedding date was announced.
