Manchester -- Miss Betty Lois Dunlap of this city, a storekeeper second class n the Waves, became the bride of Lt (j.g.) Richard Van Derck in a ceremony read July 23 at Salt Lake City, Utah according to an announcement made here this week by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll M. Dunlap The bride was a student of the University of Dubuque prior to enlisting in the service. She will report to a base at Farragut, Idaho, and later will be transferred to her husband's base in Seattle,Wash. Lieutenant Van Derck was graduated at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu and Theta Tau fraternities. He has served 10 months aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific theater and participated in five major fleet encounters.
