Pfc. Alice Darrell

 

SEABEES AND A WAC -- The five young men shown above and the young lady, will soon be serving their country in the Seabees and the WAC. Before leaving to enter the service they decided on a party and they had it, cake and everything. The group included, left to right: Bill Viner, Bill Cox, Alice Darrell, Jerry Bein, Joe McGuire and Don Hagerman. Cox, Bein, McGuire and Hagemann all worked at the arsenal, Viner was with Scott & Sons and Miss Darrell was an arsenal employee. Her home is in Buffalo and the man are all Davenporters.

Pvt. Alice Darrell, WACS, Returns to Air Base in Texas

Pvt. Alice Darrell has just returned to Waco, Tex., after spending a 13-day furlough with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Daren of R.R. No. 2, Davenport.

She entered the WACs in August of 1943 and is now in the motor transportation division at the army air base in Texas. She received her training at Fort Des Moines before going to her present station. Prior to entering the the WACs,, she was employed at the Rock Island arsenal.

She was entertained at a family dinner Wednesday at the home of her grandparents, M. and Mrs. W.S. Teel, R.R. No. 2, Davenport.

A brother and sister, both in the army service, spending furloughs in Davenport together are Pvt. William Darrell and Pfc. Alice Darrell, the former on a six-day delay en route from Camp Maxey, Tex., to Ft. Meade, Md., the latter home for 15 days from the Waco army air field, Tex. Their parents and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Darrell, R.R. No. 2, Davenport.

Pvt. Darrell, a former employee of the Rock Island arsenal, entered the service in August, 1944, and was stationed for a time in Ft. Lewis, Wash. He is with the army infantry. His wife, Mrs. Jewell Darrell and daughters reside in Buffalo.

Miss Darrell, who has been stationed in Waco since completing her "basic" training at Ft. Des Moines entered the service the latter part of 1943. She had previously been employed by the Kohrs Packing Co.
