Joins WAVES
Miss Lillian Clemons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Clemons of Route No. 1, Bettendorf, left this week for New York, where she will receive her basic training in the WAVES at Hunter college. She attended the Pleasant Valley and Davenport schools and prior to her enlistment, was employed at the Rock Island arsenal.
Her twin brother, Pvt. Leonard Clemons, who is with the combat engineers, is home on furlough from Ft Jackson, S.C. and will return Saturday. Before entering the service, he was employed at the Ordnance Steel Co. in Bettendorf.

Wave of the Day
Lillian Clemons, seaman first class, of the WAVES, has returned to Port Huneme, Calif., after spending a 20-day leave at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Clemons, R.R. No. 1, Bettendorf.
Miss Clemons began her naval training Dec. 2, 1943, at Hunter college, N.Y., and has been stationed at the U.S. Naval base, Acorn assembly and training detachment, Port Huneme, since February. Prior to entering the WAVES, she was employed at the Rock Island arsenal.
A brother, Pvt. Leonard A. Clemons, is stationed with the engineers division at Camp Atterbury, Ind.

Miss Clemons to Marry Sgt. Emery
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Clemons, R.R. No. 1, Bettendorf, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Lillian Clemons, teleman 2/c in the WAVES, to Sgt Paul Richard Emery, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Emery, Westville, Ill.
Miss Clemons attended Pleasant Valley and Davenport schools and was recalled into service a year ago. She is stationed at the U.S. naval training station at Great Lakes.
Sgt. Emery Westville township high school and the University of Illinois. He has been in the Marine corps the last four years and also is stationed at Great Lakes.
