Des Moines in the Services
Des Moines women have completed basic training at the naval training school for WAVES, the Bronx, New York, and have received orders to report to various naval establishments throughout the nation. They are all seaman, second class. The list includes:
Joan G. Canfield, 22, daughter of Mrs. Martha Canfield, 1815 Sixth ave., to hospital corps school at Bethesda, Md., for further instruction.

Des Moines in the Services
Joan G. Canfield, hospital apprentice, second class, U.S.N., who recently was graduated from the national naval corps hospital, is spending a seven-day leave with her mother, Mrs. M. G. Canfield of Des Moines. She will report to the naval hospital in San Diego, Cal.

Joan G Canfield, who left Des Moines to serve as a WAVE, writes from San Diego that she almost knocked herself out (the fun way) recently when she bumped into Glenn Ford, of movie fame, around the halls out there.
