WOMEN IN SERVICE

Pvt. Frances M. Burdick, daughter of Mrs. Roy Butterbaugh, 1127 East Washington street, is taking basic military training at the third WAC training center at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., as a member of the newly organized WAC medical companies.

Prior to enlistment in the WAC, she was employed in the office of the Yellow Cab company. Her husband, Lieut. John C. Burdick was killed in action.

Solemn Glory -- It is a proud moment for WAC Pvt. Frances Burdick of 531 Vincente, Berkely, as Col. L.R Proust, post commander of Hammond General Hospital at Modesto, pins on her the posthumous award of Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster for her husband, Lt. John C. Burdick, who was shot down over East Prussia in 1943.

WAC RECEIVES MATE'S AWARD

Wac Pvt. Frances. Burdick of 531 Vincente, Berkely, stood at attention with seven other soldiers at Hammond General Hospital this week while Army authorities posthumously awarded her husband, 2nd Lt John C. Burdick, the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster.

Burdick was shot down as he brought his ship back from a raid over Marionburg, East Prussia, October 9. 1944, while on his eleventh mission.

He is the son of Capt. H.A. Burdick, military police officer at the Presidio.
