Sheldon, Iowa – Phyllis Maxine Barnes, teacher in the public schools here was sworn in a member of the women’s reserve of the Marine Corps at Des Moines.

Cherokee – Phyllis Maxine Barnes, Cherokee, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps women’s reserve and has been assigned to the quartermaster depot at Camp Lejeune, New River, N. C. Lieut. Barnes enlisted in Sioux City in April, 1943, without previous experience in her present line of duty. The women’s reserve is open for enlistments of women between the ages of 20 and 35.
