Two Nurses Here Become Ensigns in Naval Reserve

Two Waterloo registered nurses -- Misses Nona F. Anton and Doris Kern -- will report Dec. 6 to the naval hospital at Great Lakes, Ill., as ensigns in the nurse corps of the naval reserve, it was announced here Tuesday.

Miss Anton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Anton, La Porte City, has been employed as industrial nurse in the medical department of the John Deere Tractor Co. for three years.

A graduate of La Porte City high school, she completed her training in 1934 at Iowa Methodist hospital, Des Moines.

Miss Kern, daughter of Mr and Mrs Russell Kern, Traer, Ia., has served at Presbyterian hospital here since 1940. She is a graduate of the high school at Traer and the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

La Porte City -- Ens. Nona Anton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Anton, left for Corona, Calif after a two-week leave at home. She will be employed in a naval hospital. She is a graduate of Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines and was employed in the medical department at John Deere's in Waterloo before she took her U.S. naval training at the Great Lakes near Chicago, starting Dec. 6, 1944.
