Des Moines in the Services
Iris Anderson, former Latin and physical education instructor at Roosevelt High school, has been promoted from an ensign to a lieutenant, junior grade, in the WAVES. Lieutenant Anderson is officer-in-charge of WAVES at Ottumwa naval air station, Ottumwa, Ia.

Des Moines in the Services
Lt. (j.g.) Iris Anderson, Des Moines, is the first WAVE officer to report for duty at the naval air station, Kahului, Maui, in the Hawaiian islands. She is administrative assistant to the executive officer there.
Lieutenant Anderson is on leave from the Des Moines public schools, where she taught physical education at Roosevelt High school.
Before going to Hawaii, she was stationed at Anacostia, D.C. Prior to that she was at the naval air stations, Ottumwa, Ia.
