Order of Malta Is Bestowed Upon Mrs. Alice Pelegrin, of Davenport, For Work With Red Cross in Italy
Mrs. Alice Pelegrin, assistant administrative director of the American Red Cross war relief in the Italian, North African area and former executive secretary of the Scott County Red Cross chapter, has been honored with the Order of Malta for her outstanding efforts in relief work here today by her husband, Joseph A. Pelegrin and the local Red Cross Office.
The highest position beneath that of the Italian royal family, the Order of Malta has been conferred upon only 25 women throughout the world, three of whom are American women cited at this time.
The honor was conferred upon Mrs. Pelgrin in Rome where she has been engaged in civilian relief work since the fall of that city last June. The other two women named in the ward are Mary Mulcahy and Louise Boie, also in Rome.
The American Red Cross as an organization was cited at the same time.
Mrs. Pelegrin, who went overseas last fall and served first in an administrative capacity in Naples, had, while connected with the local chapter, volunteered a number of times, for emergency relief work throughout the country for which sh has been commended by the national organization.
