Pvt. Homer Young Dies in Action in Germany
Garner - Pvt. Homer Dale Young was killed in Germany Nov. 27, according to word received by his family Friday afternoon. Dale was in the infantry, probably in the first army.
Pvt. Young was inducted into the army at Camp Dodge Jan. 9, 1944, and took his basic training at Camp Fannin, Tex., July 8 he arrived home for a 10-day furlough with his family, going back to Ft. Meade, Md. from where he left for overseas assignment. He spent about 2 months in England and left there the latter part of October going through France and Belgium into Germany.
Homer Dale Young was born in Garner, July 30, 1913, and lived all of his life here, except for a short time at Clear Lake. He attended the Garner public school. On Oct. 7, 1933, he was married to Doris Nonnweiler, of Miller. To them 3 children were born, Janice, Beverly and Barbara.
For a number of years Dale worked for the Jacob E. Decker plant in Garner and the last 6 years he was employed by the Farmers elevator.
Surviving, besides his wife and 3 children, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Young of Algona; two sisters, Dorothy at home and Doris, of Mason City.
