Richard Woodard, 81, Boone, a former Webster City resident died of heart failure on Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at the Boone County Hospital. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone, With Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Webster City. Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone on Friday from noon to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Richard Woodard, son of Roy and Loretta (Donovan) Woodard, was born April 24, 1916 in Eagle Grove. On Dec. 11, 1935 he married Lillian Thompson at Des Moines. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Later he farmed in Boone.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Loras and Betty Woodard, Boone; a sister, Helen Byers, Boone; four granddaughters; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother.
Mr. Woodard was a member of the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 814, a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus-Clement smythe Assembly, and the American Legion 56. He served as a chairman of the Boone County Democratic Central Committee for several years.
