LuVern Harding Witmer was born July 17, 1915 to Frank W. and Hazel Mae Mather Witmer. He died Dec. 25, 1944 and is buried in Maxwell Cemetery, Maxwell, IA.
Sgt. Witmer served in World War II with the U.S. Army 323rd Infantry, 81st Division and died as the result of injuries received when he was accidentally struck by a motor vehicle on Peleliu Island in the Pacific area.
