Lawrence Richard Williamson was born Feb. 9, 1921 to Knight Richard and Edith Mae Padget Williamson. He died Aug. 10, 1942 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and in Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, IA.
Seaman Apprentice Williamson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vincennes (CA-44) and was MIA/FOD/KIA when that ship was sunk in the Battle of Savo Island. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
