Pvt. Vermuele Died Dec. 27, Parents Told
Lanesboro (THNS)—Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vermuele were advised by the War Department yesterday that their son, Pvt. Lyle Vermuele, 27, died Dec. 27 in a hospital in France after being wounded in France, Dec. 5.
Pvt. Vermuele, an infantryman, had been in the service since last April. He had gone overseas after being home on furlough in October or November.
Surviving with his parents are five brothers and one sister. Four of his brothers, Simeon, Arthur, Lester and Gerald are serving with the armed forces. Another brother, Cecil, is employed in Omaha. His sister, Henrietta, is at the family home at the edge of Lanesboro.

Memorial Rites At Lanesboro for Pvt. L. Vermule
Lanesboro (THNS)—Memorial services for Pvt. Lyle W. Vermuele were held in the Lanesboro Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Merle Hay Legion Post of Glidden in charge of the military rites. The sermon was preached by the local pastor, the Rev. J. H. Freedline. Three selections were sung by Mrs. Romayne Huffman, of Carroll, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Kenneth K. Holley, also of Carroll. American Legion members attended the services in a body. At the close of the service, the flowers, which had been placed in baskets, were presented to his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vermuele, by the Rev. Mr. Freedline. The flag, after being folded, was presented to Mrs. Lyle Vermuele by Art Juergens. Following benediction, taps were sounded.
Pvt. Lyle Wm. Vermuele was born at Lake City, Aug. 2q7, 1917, and died in Belgium, Dec. 27, 1944, at the age of 26 years. He was called into the service April 4, 1944 and received his basic training at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and Camp Hood, Tex. After a furlough spent with relatives, he was sent to Fort George Meade, Md., Nov. 10. Remaining there for five days, he went overseas, Nov. 15.
He is survived by his wife and three children; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vermuele; five brothers and one sister.
His brother, Simeon, is serving with the Pacific fleet; Arthur with the air force in the Philippine Islands; Gerald, in the U.S. Army in Italy; Lester of the Navy is now home on furlough. Cecil and Henrietta are at home.

Final Rites For Pvt. Vermuele Set For Sunday
Final rites for Pvt. Lyle W. Vermuele, who was killed in action December 27, 1944, in Belgium, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church in Lanesboro. The Rev. Clyde King will officiate. Re-burial will be in the Lanesboro cemetery. The body, which arrived in Carroll Monday morning and is resting at the Huffman Funeral home, will lie in state at the church, with a military guard, from 12 o'clock noon Sunday until the hour of the rites. The military service will be in charge of the Merle Hay Post, American Legion, of Glidden. Pvt. Vermuele, son of Mrs. Sara Vermuele of Carroll and the late Frank Vermuele, was born August 25, 1917, at Lake City, Iowa. He was called to serve his country April 4, 1944, and received his training at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., and Camp Hood, Tex. He was sent overseas from Ft. George Meade, Md., November 15, 1944. Pvt. Vermule served with Company B, 318th Infantry. The soldier spent most of his life at Lanesboro. He was a member of the Methodist church there. Surviving are his wife, the former Evelyn Hall of Lohrville, two children, Rosella June, and Gary Dean, his mother, five brothers, Simeon, Lamar, Mo.; Arthur, Lanesboro; Cecil, who is on Guam; Gerald and Lester, Minden, and one sister, Henrietta, Carroll. His father was killed in an automobile accident near Lanesboro April 16, 1948.
