Eighty men from Kossuth county lost their lives while in the service of their country in World War II.

Herman Edward Veerkamp was born Oct. 13, 1924 to Herman G. and Philomena Hessler Veerkamp. He died Apr. 9, 1945 and is buried in Saint Columbanus Cemetery, Blooming Prairie, MN.

Pvt. Veerkamp served with the 382nd Infantry, 96th Division, U.S. Army in World War II and was KIA on Okinawa in the Ryukyu Islands.
