Rene George “George" Van De Voorde was born July 16, 1921 to Julius and Rachel Vervaeke Van De Voorde. He died Feb. 3, 1945 and is buried in Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium. He has a cenotaph in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA.
Lt. Van De Voorde served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 566th Bomber Squadron, 389th Bomber Group, Heavy and was KIA. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.
