Gene Lee Thompson, 78, of rural Ellsworth, Iowa, died Thursday morning, February 10 in Webster City following a lingering illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Ellsworth.
Gene is survived by his wife, Delores Mae (Owenson) Thompson, four sons, Greg Thompson (Christine) of Webster City, Rodney Thompson (Karen) of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Nicholas Thompson (Diana) of Tacoma, Washington and John Thompson (Dawn) of Chandler, AZ. He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Shirley Berkemann.
Gene was born March 26, 1926 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Edna (Johnson) Thompson. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1943. Gene married Dolores Owenson on July 25, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines Gene farmed most of his life near Ellsworth. He worked with Traffic Marketing Service in Stanhope for 23 years. He served his country in the Army during World War II. Arrangements were made with the Cremation Society of Central Iowa.
