Pfc. Floyd Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thompson of Jewell, graduated from Jewell High school in 1937. He was a member of the 34th Division and was overseas 33 months. He was injured in Italy on May 29, and spent several months in a Naples hospital. He was been awarded the Purple Heart for injury in combat.
Since returning to the United States he has been in a hospital in New York, and before coming home on furlough three weeks ago, he was transferred to Winter General hospital at Topeka, Kans., for further hospitalization. Floyd’s injury was a machine gun wound below the knee and he is on the way to complete recovery.

Floyd Robert Thompson was born Sept. 11, 1918 to Bert and Marie Henrietta Eige Thompson. He died Dec. 26, 1981 and is buried in the Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, IA.
Private Thompson served as a member of the 34th Division. He was injured in Italy, May 29, 1944, and was awarded the Purple Heart for injury in combat.
