Spencer, Iowa – Coast Guard Lt. (j.g.) Charles D. Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Thompson, R.F.D. 2, Spencer is serving aboard a coast guard manned army repair ship operating in the southwest Pacific. Lt. Thompson and his mates, ready at all hours of the day and night to put battle damaged vessels into condition to fight again, are playing a vital role in the ultimate defeat of the Japs. Prior to getting his current assignment Lt. Thompson served aboard a coast guard manned figate in the Pacific. In civilian life, he was a coach at Zearing High School, Zearing, Iowa.
