HELD SERVICE FOR SOLDIER
Pfc. Johann H. Tapper, Former County Resident, Died June 16.
Memorial services were held Monday at Buffalo Center, for a former Hamilton County serviceman, Pfc. Johann H. Tapper, 31, who was killed on the Italian battlefront June 16.
Private Tapper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tapper who used to live in the Blairsburg community, was serving with an infantry division at the time of his death and had been in the army since Nov. 10, 1942. He took his early training at Camp White, Ore., later being transferred to Camp Adair, Ore.
Members of the American legion post conducted the services held at the Tapper home Monday and also participated in services immediately afterwards at the Ramsey Reformed church.
Besides his parents, Private Tapper leaves four brothers and seven sisters. Quite widely known in this community he was a nephew of Mrs. Earl Bates of this city and also of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Tapper of this city. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Pruisman, Ed Pruisman, John Pruisman, all of this community, are cousins of the serviceman.

Eighty men from Kossuth county lost their lives while in the service of their country in World War II.

Johann H. Tapper was born Aug. 28, 1912 to Johann ‘Joe’ and Harmke Stoppelmoor Tapper. He died June 16, 1944 and is buried in the Florence American Cemetery, Via Cassia, Italy Plot: F Row: 9 Grave: 19 with a cenotaph at the Ramsey Reformed Cemetery, Titonka, IA.
Pvt. Tapper served with the 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Division and was killed in action on the Italian battlefront. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
