Joseph H. Tallman was born Mar. 4, 1915 to Joseph Samuel and Lydia Ethel Hamer Tallman. He was KIA June 12, 1944 not far from Saint Mere Elise, France. He was originally buried in a U.S. military cemetery in Saint Mere Elise, France and later his body was returned home and is now interred at the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion, IA.
Sgt. Tallman served with the 357th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division U.S. Army in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. **Staff Sergeant Joe Tallman was leading his men in hedgerow fighting when a sniper shot him. His dazed and bewildered men could not understand WHY this would happen to Joe, their devoted and distinguished leader. Traumatized, his men eliminated the sniper.”**
