John William Swan was born in 1917 to Wallace Cantwell and Anna M. Swan. He died June 24, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, IA.
Lt. Swan served in World War II with the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division and was MIA/KIA in the New Guinea area and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
