Central High Grad Missing
Edgar Allen Sturges of Navy a Former Journal Carrier
Edgar Allen Sturges, motor machinists mate first class, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Sturges, Mapleton, has been reported missing in action, according to word received by the parents.
Young Sturges was born April 13, 1918, in Sioux City and was graduated from Central High School in 1936. He was a Journal-Tribune carrier for six years north of Leeds.
Two brothers James and Alfred also in the Navy, have their homes in Fort Wayne, Ind. James is scheduled to arrive home Saturday from Great Lakes, Ill, after which his station will be changed.

Edgar A. Sturges With Submarine Lost in War
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Sturges, Mapleton, Ia., formerly of Sioux City, have received a letter from the War Department informing them that their son, Edgar Allen Sturges, motor machinist’s mate first class, reported missing in action in the China sea, January 6, 1944, has been declared dead.
Sturges was a member of the crew of the submarine, U.S.S. Scorpion, which was last reported the U.S.S. Herring in the China sea January 6, 1944. Since that time no trace of the submarine or any of its crew have been found.
Sturges was born April 13, 1918, in Sioux City and was graduated from Central high school in 1936. He was a Journal carrier for six years.
Soon after entering the service he married Margaret Rose Kiefer. She died December 7, 1945, at Oakdale, Ia.
