Lee Raymond Sterner was born July 2, 1922 to Van O. and Delight Beulah Howe Sterner. He died July 24, 1943 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 5, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii and has a cenotaph in Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, IA.
Sgt. Sterner served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 42nd Bomber Squadron, 11th Bomber Group, Heavy and was KIA on a bombing mission from Midway to Wake Island. He was the flight engineer on the B-24 “Cabin in the Sky”. He was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart and Air Medal.
