Craig Gene ‘Gene’ Speedling was born Arp. 27, 1923 to Lenzie Leroy and Hazel Naomi Gray Speedling. He died July 24, 1944 and was buried in the USAF Cemetery, Guam 1, Asan, Guam. In 1948 his body was returned to the U.S. for permanent burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion, IA.
Cpl. Speedling was wounded in action, July 21, 1944, during D-Day operations at Blue Beach, Guam. He was evacuated to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines Aid Station where he died of his wounds.
