Sgt. Robert D. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Smith of this city, who is stationed with the army air forces bombardier school at Big Springs, Tex., was recently complimented by the officer in charge. The commendation came from headquarters of the AAF central flying training command at Randolph Field for Sgt. Smith’s part in the July-August installment of the Big Springs AAF history, which was outstanding among the bombardment station histories. The commendation said that it was well written and organized, and there was a well balanced selection of pictures, charts and tables.

Robert Donald Smith was born Oct. 8, 1914 to Robert Henry and Rose Belle Ruckle Smith. He died Feb. 21, 1994 and is buried in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
