Clifton Charles Smith was born Aug. 13, 1918 to Andrew J. and Mary Jane Figgins Smith. He died July 16, 1944 and is buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He has a cenotaph in Greenlawn Cemetery, Afton, IA.
Pvt. Smith served in World War II with the U.S. Army 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was KIA in France and awarded the Purple Heart.
