2 Ex-Residents Here Liberated from Germans
Robert Shockley and Robert Dahl Freed
Two former Sioux Cityans, Pfc. Robert Dahl and Pvt. Robert L. Shockley, have been liberated from German prisoner of war camps, according to word received here.
Pfc. Dahl, who had not been heard from for several months, called his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Dahl of Omaha, former Sioux Cityans, from New York recently, stating he had been freed from the Luckenwalde prison camp in Germany. He came to the States by air transport and after convalescing two days in New York was flown to the Schick General hospital, Clinton, la. His letters indicate he is improving.
Pfc. Dahl was reported missing in action December 14, 1944, and three months later was reported a German prisoner. He has two sisters, Mrs. A. W. Ahrens, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Charles Milligan, 2117 Jackson street. The Dahls are visiting in Sioux City this Week.
Pvt. Shockley, whose father, F. C Shockley, now lives in Huron, S. D., has been liberated from the stalag 3-B camp near Furstenburg on the Oder river. He was in a tank destroyer battalion in north Africa when he was captured February 17, 1943.
The Shockleys were residents of Sioux City from 1929 to 1937.
