Plan Military Rites for Hero Clarion Paratrooper to Be Buried Saturday

Clarion - Military services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eyler funeral home for Sgt. Bernard Shake, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman G. Shake, of Clarion. The Rev. William B. Gamble, pastor of the United Presbyterian church will officiate. Sgt. Shake enlisted in the paratroopers in April 1942, and entered Camp Wolters, Texas, for training. He was a member of the 507 parachute infantry and was killed in Normandy June 22, 1944. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Strever, of Clarion. Burial will be in the Clarion Evergreen cemetery.

He had been employed by National Tea stores as a manager of the Webster City store for some time before entering the service.

Bernard Edgar Shake was born Aug. 10, 1919 to Lyman Gage and Elsie A. Turk Shake. He died June 22, 1944 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion, IA.
