George Richard Shaeffer was born Nov. 15, 1920 to Leo E. and Rose Anna Shaeffer. He died Sept. 29, 1944 and is buried in Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avold, Lorraine, France.
Capt. Shaeffer served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II with the 15th Photo Squadron, 10th Reconnaissance Group. He was KIA over Stuttgart, Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
