Sgt. John E. Scully enlisted at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa on 26 January 1944.
He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1935 where his major studies were in Math and his hobby was dancing. Prior to entering the service, he worked as a truck driver for Ft. Dodge Gas And Electric Co.
Sgt. Scully was killed in action with six other members of his group in a fight between an American tank and a German anti-tank team in the vicinity of Oberbiel, Germany.
Sgt. Scully is remembered at Corpus Christi Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Webster County, Iowa.

John Edward Scully Jr. was born July 1, 1917 to John Edward (Sr.) and Annie Marie Correct Scully. He died Mar. 27, 1945 and is buried in Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
Sgt. Scully served in World War II with the U.S. Army 23rd Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division and was KIA. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
