Pvt. Daniel Godfrey Schultz

 

Memorial Held For Daniel G. Schultz, Lone Rock Soldier

First reported as missing in action, Daniel Godfrey Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Schultz of near Lone Rock, was officially announced by the government as having been killed in action in France Aug. 10, 1944. He was called into service March 23, 1943 and was sent overseas May 10, 1944.

Besides his parents and three brothers, George of Sierra Madra, Calif; Arthur of Algona, and Leonard, in the navy overseas, he is also survived by his wife, the former ruby Marie Godden of Burt to whom he was married in September, 1943.

Memorial services were held in the Presbyterian church at Burt on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2:30 p.m. with the American Legion Post and Auxiliary assisting Rev. Paul Figge in the service. Commander J. M. Miller read the eulogy and obituary and presented the American flag to the wife of the stricken soldier. Erna Barnes sand two appropriate numbers, accompanied on the piano by Ruth Hodgson. A large group of relatives and friends attended the service.

FIRST RELEASE OF STATE HISTORICAL DEATH SUMMARIES  

Eighty men from Kossuth county lost their lives while in the service of their country in World War II.

Daniel Godfrey Schultz was born Apr. 28, 1923 to Godfrey and Alice Stokes Schultz. He died Aug. 10, 1944 and is buried in Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France.

Pvt. Schultz served in World War II with the U.S. Army 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division and was MIA/KIA in France and awarded the Purple Heart.
