Hilbert J. Schmitz was born July 18, 1913 to Henry C. and Sophia Hansman Schmitz. He died Nov. 15, 1944 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carroll, IA.
Sgt. Schmitz served with the U.S. Army and was KIA at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
