Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schimmer have received a letter from their son, Alfred Schimmer, private first class, who states he has arrived with the armed forces in France.

Alfred Joseph Schimmer was born Dec. 24, 1913 to Henry T. and Katherine Marie Eriewine Schimmer. He died Apr. 18, 1945 and is buried in Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
Pvt. Schimmer served in World War II with the U.S. Army 23rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Division and was KIA in Germany and awarded the Purple Heart.
