Darrell Schell Dies in Action
Pvt. (f.c.) Darrell Schell, 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward A. Schell, Runnells, Ia., was killed in action Feb. 29, in Italy, the war department has informed his parents.
Private Schell was inducted into the army Apr. 15, 1941 and received his basic training with the infantry of the 34th division at Camp Claiborne, La. A year later he went overseas to North Ireland and later was transferred to England, North Africa and Italy. During the North African campaign, Pvt. Schell served as a motorcycle runner.
He was born in Runnells and was employed by the Maytag Co. at Newton, Ia., and by the Polk county board of supervisors on the road maintenance division before entering the service.
Surviving, besides his parents, is a brother, Pvt (f.c.) Delmar R. Schell, stationed in Tennessee.

Darrell James Schell was born July 10, 1914 to Ward A. and Gladys Lamb Schell. He died Feb. 29, 1944.
Pvt. Schell served in World War II with the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was KIA in Italy.
