Robert M. Rairden, seaman second class, son of Mrs. Wanda Rairden, 2018 Court Street, has completed basic training at the Submarine school, submarine base, New London, Conn. Seaman Rairden, a graduate of Central High School and letterman in basketball, entered the navy in August 1941.

Robert Marion Rairden was born about 1920 to Marian DeMiller. He was the adopted son of Albert C. Rairden. He died Feb. 1, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Petty Officer Rairden served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Scorpion (SS-278) and was MIA/FOD/KIA when that vessel was lost at sea, cause unknown. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
